The gametes and embryos of Paracentrotus lividus were exposed to various dilutions of water-soluble fractions (wsf) of oil prepared at two different temperatures (18 degrees C and 24 degrees C) to observe developmental defects during fertilization and larval stages up to pluteus. Emulsions at 24 degrees C have yielded better fertilization rates and development of larvae against emulsions at 18 degrees C. In general, developmental defects were increased with increasing wsf of oil and its toxicity decreased with increasing temperature.
